Juicing Recipe: Sneaky Sweet Veggies

Veggie Juice

3 medium carrots
½ cucumber
1 big bunch of grapes
½ cup POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice (Optional)

This recipe makes approximately 16 oz of juice.

I used to wonder how V8 Fusion could taste so sweet, just like fruit juice. Then I started juicing and realized there was no secret going on at all, mixing fruits and veggies tastes sweet! Even finicky kids will drink this juice without catching on to the vegetables in it.

Remember when you're juicing many fruits & veggies, there is no need to peel or chop any more than is necessary to fit into the chute. If it fits, throw it in there. See....

You'll end up with a wonderfully foamy and sweet concoction. Personally, I like the foam. If you could do without, it's really easy to spoon it off the top. With picky kids this may be key.

Veggie Juice

When the topic of juicing comes up I often hear concerns about the waste left behind. After finishing this batch, I scooped the pulp out to show you.

First, freshly scooped and loose in my hand.

Next, squeezed together in a ball. As you can see, it's not even the size of a small apple.

If I was preparing these items to eat, I would remove the stems from the grapes, peel the cucumber and carrots and also chop off the ends of each. In all, I really don't see a huge difference in waste at all.

Tips & Comments
If you use a centrifugal juicer and experience excessive or excessively wet pulp, try pushing the fruits and veggies down slower. Pushing too hard and fast will shoot some skins and smaller items right into the pulp container and you lose out on the juice and their nutrients.

PLEASE remember that juicing is good for you and it tastes good. Don't let professional or fanatical juicers try to convince you that it's not worth it unless you spend a lot of money on a fancy machine. That would be like saying it's not worth driving unless you have a BMW.

SECRET WEAPON FOR PICKY KIDS
Veggie Juice
The good folks over at POM Wonderful have provided me with pomegranate juice to experiment with. I've discovered that it sweetens juices very well!
