Do you buy veggie wash? Have you checked the main ingredient? Yep, it's vinegar! I'm not sure how something made of water and vinegar can cost $4.99 a bottle but, even with a coupon, I just can't do it.
While doing research to find inexpensive, eco-friendly alternatives I discovered some pretty strange things out there. The top two things I decided NOT to try were dish soap and bleach. Bleach?! Seriously?!
Here is the most simple recipe I found:
2 parts water
1 part vinegar
1 clean spray bottle
Simply mix the vinegar and water in the spray bottle & spray the mixture on your fruits and veggies, then rinse. Simple & cheap! Best of all, it works!
Why does it work?
The acetic acid in vinegar kills bacteria and helps to dissolve the wax and pesticide residues found on the skins of many fruits and vegetables.
There was one other mixture I found really interesting and may even try; They added a sprayer of hydrogen peroxide and used both before rinsing. Check out this video for the details:
